Obstetrics/Prenatal Care Visit Intervals
Prenatal care should begin as soon as you learn that you’re pregnant. In most cases, monthly doctor visits are suggested for early prenatal care. Visits become more frequent as your pregnancy progresses. Your doctor will determine the schedule that is most appropriate for you and your baby.
Ultrasound services are conveniently available at HackensackUMC Palisades. Ultrasounds are performed by a licensed ultrasound technologist who specializes in obstetrics & gynecology. This is a safe, non-invasive, painless procedure that uses sound waves to create images of the fetus, placenta, and amniotic fluid. You will be able to view these images in real time.
An ultrasound will be performed several times during your pregnancy, during which your doctor will monitor the growth and development of your baby.
" The staff is very professional! They really go the extra mile. I'm coming back for my second pregnancy."
When should you see the doctor?
It is recommended that a young woman have her first gynecologist visit at age 18. An exam is not necessary at this visit unless she is experiencing problems. At this visit, the doctor will take a personal and family medical history, answer questions, and administer vaccinations, including the HPV vaccine.
The first examination, which includes a pap smear, should be performed at age 21. If gynecological health problems arise earlier, a visit should be scheduled at that time.
